I can't believe how good it is to have my Z back in service again. I've been wrasslin' with a Code 34, the dreaded detonation circuit error for almost a year. I've scoured the forums and chatted up a few members about their experiences. The Z hasn't been my daily since 01, just nice days and weekends, so when I fired her up one day and she ran like crap I pulled the floorboard and went after codes. 34 came up, reset to get 55, took it out and within a couple of minutes she was stuttering like mad. Idle was rock solid, but she loped like I had a mild cam. Once I found out you had to pull the engine to replace the darned sensor, I decided to go the relocation route as advocated by Bernie and many others. I hear you asking, "Didn't he use a multi-meter?" Valid question, and the answer is no. Yeah, yeah, I've beat myself up quite enough over that, thank you. Swapped, reset, started and 55! The grin didn't last long as minutes down the road it was the same old problem rearing it's ugly head. In despair, I decided it was time to get professional help, on several levels but that's another post, but the only hope in these parts is the dealership. It was either that, or have an Ultra Red piece of lawn art. Fortunately for us Z folk here, George (nissanguyz32), is a tech at Hunt Nissan in Chattanooga. I was hoping a fellow forum member would take care of me. After explaining to him what I'd done so far, he left me pacing the waiting room like an expectant poppa. He sends the service adviser to inform me that cylinder one isn't firing. Peachy. I'm having heart palpitations of injector replacement at the least or that the motor is on it's way out. I'm kind of a glass half empty type, I guess. After a hour or so, the news comes that the issue is a broken wire to the PTU. Sweet relief, mixed with a bit of self-loathing at my automotive skill level, but I'm thrilled to be back in business. My thanks to George and because of him, my twelve year affair with my 93 continues. The Lesson: Knowledge is a good thing, it's the application that can get you into trouble!
